Welcome!
Silver Liners News was created to help seniors stay safe from scams, fraud, and online threats explained in simple, clear language.
Every day, someone is targeted by scams that are becoming more sophisticated and harder to recognize. Many are designed to create urgency, confusion, or fear.
We’re two sisters who care deeply about helping people feel safe and confident navigating today’s digital world.
Why We Created Silver Liners News
We saw how often smart, capable people were being targeted and how confusing it can feel.
Too often, people feel embarrassed to ask questions or talk about what’s happened. That shouldn’t be the case.
We’re building a community of Silver Liners where people can share what they’re seeing and help each other stay safe.
What’s Happening Right Now
Grandparent Scam
In this CBC report, scammers call pretending to be a grandchild in trouble, using urgency and emotion to pressure people into sending money.
We’ve included a short video from a trusted Canadian news source explaining how scams like this work and how quickly they can escalate.
If you receive a call like this:
Hang up
Call the person directly
Verify before taking action
Silver Liners Approved - This is a publicly available video from a trusted news source. If you prefer, you can also search for this story directly on the CBC website
Scammers want you to act fast, without thinking or asking for advice. Messages are meant to scare you and may pretend to be:
- Your bank
- A family member
- A government agency
- Law enforcement
They might sound professional and use official looking logos. But the push to act immediately is a big warning sign. These messages will sound similar to these:
"Your account will be locked today"
"Police are on their way unless you pay now"
"Someone is trying to access your account"
